Some Pictures of the Storm's Aftermath

You Have to look close, but if you do you'll see that everything is covered in1-3 inches of ice, even down to the smallest twig. Then on top of that there is 5-9 inches of snow. When you are outside you can hear the trees breaking under the weight of it all. It sounds like thunder and breaking glass. It really is a very surreal experience.

Two days later thousands of people in our area are still without power, we feel very blessed to have been spared. The power company has been working non-stop since the first ice storm. They are putting in a great effort to repair the damage. We saw utility trucks all over town putting the pieces back together. Kudos to them.

And you wake up and everything looks snowed over..l.












That is how you create a disaster area in Southern Indiana.

Ice and Snow

Yes we in the middle of a winter storm which includes freezing rain/sleet with snow inter-mingled in there. It started last night with the freezing rain which lasted for quite a few hours. Then sometime during the night we received a few inches of snow. During lunch time today the freezing rain came back and has stayed with us though the afternoon. The prediction is that it is going to continue though the night along with some more snow. All the schools have canceled today and I'm sure they will be tomorrow too. Because of the storm everyone is staying in and enjoying a day of playing, making yummy food, reading books, watching movies and of course enjoying some hot chocolate.

Wood Letters

Where did we get these wood pieces you ask? No need to go any further then the garage. Where we cut and sanded pieces of wood we already had. It has been a great hands-on experience/activity which has already helped with letter formation, building words and to just plain have fun with. We have also made up a little game, of writing a word on the chalkboards and then he will try to form that word with the wood pieces. By far he enjoys making the letter "D/d" over and over again. If you couldn't guess my kids are currently 'in to' Dora and Diego. (And seriously if you think i'm so amazing that I thought of this idea on my own, think again found it on a website: http://thewritestart.typepad.com - she purchased hers- and I figured we could make them instead)
