Sand Art

Last week we were discussing the beach and sea shells. I really wanted to do a fun art activity with the kids to go along with the idea of the beach, when I came acrossed a website that had this wonderful Sand Art idea - you can find it Here. So we gathered our materials, all of which I had around the house, which I love since I don't like having to go to the store to pick up one little thing to do a art activity with the kids.

Remnants of Hurricane Ike

The remnants of Hurrican Ike found there way to our neighborhood. The powerful 60 mph gusts of wind came though Sunday Morning. The power flicked on and off the whole time we were getting ready for Church and continued to do so for the first hour of church. A few families at church told us they didn't have power at home and some even had down trees. We were lucky we didn't have much damage to our home or cars as others did. All we found when we returned home from church was our picnic table chairs scattered across the backyard, as well as our BBQ tipped over (no worries its fine we will BBQ again) The only one sad thing occurred was our poor 3 year old front yard tree went down, it was a sickly tree before and know its dead.

Tom got out his trusty saw, pick axe, a rope and his truck and cleared it away-

We heard the news via the radio while driving to UVSC to attend our morning classes, no classes were attended that day we spent most of our time at the institute building watching the TVs. We then went to work - Tom talking phone calls from New Yorkers who wanted their Windows 98 fixed and me in training for the Microsoft Word/FP project. What's your story of that day?

Family Double Date=Bowling

Bowling Shoes or clown shoes, watching the bowling ball go down the lane very slowly and "I gotta get my ball".

So, what have we learned today? Just because you can bowl a 300 game on the wii, doesn't translate to real life. Um... even with the bumpers in place. Which by the way, is the coolest part of being a parent taking the kids bowling.

This was our first attempt at bowling with the kids. Tom won, he broke 100, but may have also broke one of the bumpers - he hit them so many times... Renee came in second - way to go beating two toddlers. No surpize the kids came in third and forth, in that order.

Some day, maybe we'll get the drive to join a bowling league and learn to throw a couple of turkeys in a game - yeah, that's not going to happen.

Beautiful Photography

For many years the Mesa Arizona Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has had exhibits on the temple grounds during the Easter season. This year, there was also a 'Reflections of Christ' photography exhibit in the Visitor's Center. The photographer was given permission to photograph Pageant cast members for the exhibit. They traveled to various locations in Arizona that the photographer felt looked like the places in Israel where the events took place and recreated the scenes. The photographer worked with a few other individuals to put together a 5 minute slideshow which includes every image from the ex hibit set to the hymn 'Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing.' Remember when you're watching the video that the photographs are real, they aren't paintings. Incredible! Remember to maximize the video so you can see it full screen. You can expand the screen to fit your entire computer screen for a better view by clicking on the lower right hand square icon (next to the volume).

Brave Boy

Last week, J had allergy testing done for peanuts. We knew he is allergic for he gets hives and throws up immediately after he has anything with peanuts in it. However we didn't know how extreme it was. He had blood tests done-he cried but he was still very brave and let the tecs do their job. Because he was so brave afterwards we told him we good go get ice cream. He stated he wanted to go to the "place with the blue roof" which we figured out to be one of our favorite ice cream places here - Culvers. A couple of days later, we got the results back from his blood work his level is 3.78 (I believe the range goes from 0 to 9.5; 0 being no allergies and 9.5 being extremely allergic) He will get re-tested in 6 months to see if his level has increased or decreased-
