Cincinnati

This past weekend we took a trip over to Cincinnati for a couple of days

Day 1: Kings Island

The kids had a blast....

What I am talking about, us much older kids had a blast riding the super high trill rides including the new Diamondback ride which is 230 feet tall

Louisville: Day 2 = Science Center

We enjoyed the Louisville Science Center

The kids favorite exhibits were:
the water table (so much so we had to change their clothes)
building a block arch tower, being inside a bubble, imagination play in the store & the subermine,
and chillin' inside of a portion of a space shuttle.

Picking up Nana in Louisville

I'm not sure if everyone new this, but Renee and I live in one of the coolest parts of the world. There is very little crime in Newburgh, the weather is often plesant and we live very close to lots of cool stuff.

This week we drove out to Louisville (1.5 hours) to pickup Nana Becky from the airport. And you know how sometimes you go through a day and realize that everything turned out just right, even better then you had planned. Well this was just one of those days. The guy at the information desk gave the kids some wooden airplanes, the kids loved them, and were well entertained while waiting in the terminal lobby.


When Nana Becky arived, not long after we got to the airport. The kids responded as appropriate with lots of hugs and kisses.

After we left the airport we went out to eat at a Cuban restaurant. None of us had had Cuban cusien before. It was okay, not fantastic, but okay.


So next we went to the Louisville Slugger Museum. As we were crossing the street a firetruck was passing by, I guess they had nothing to do, so they pulled over and offered the kids to climb up into the driver seat. Seriously, could a job be any cooler. Driving around in a ladder truck, pausing only for photo ops and to put out fires. After the kids finished playing fireman, they got these cool hats. Inside the Museum we were able to see how the bats are made. We got to hold Mickey Mantel's Bat and Lou Dobbs Bat. We saw one of Babe Ruths Bats. Of yeah, and the worlds largest Louisville Slugger is outside. Also at the end of the tour they gave us some little bats.



So after the Museum we went to the waterfront park and let the kids play for a while. Turns out, this is a really nice area. The grounds are well cared for and there is a lot of space to explore.


Then what trip to Louisville would be complete without a visit to the ball park. So we went to see the Louisville Bats play at Louisville Slugger Stadium. They lost, but it was still a lot of fun. At the stadium they have a playground out behind Right Field. So when the kids got tired of watching the game, it was easy to keep them entertained.

When it was all over, it was a great day. Everything went just about perfect.

Tribute to Jim Meeks

My friend and mentor, Jim Meeks passed away today. He has been battling cancer for some time now. Jim was a great mentor to me. He graciously allowed me to shadow him when I was deciding to become a PA. He again allowed me to work with him as a PA student. I learned so much from Jim. His influence will continue on my life. I work now in an Emergency Room and often reflect back on the things he taught me. I am eternally grateful to him.

Area Day of Service = turtle found

Southeast Area Day of Service: Our wards service was picking up sticks/branches at Scales Lake (still cleaning up from the Ice Storm in January)
