Spending the day with family especially my Dad on Fathers Day!
Only downside was Tom wasn't in Utah yet.

For FHE one Monday we spent the night climbing around a pyramid

(aka cement and metal playground set) and surprisingly nobody got injured.

While driving to Ogden to surprise Nana and Papa Priddis, (first time meeting our new baby)

my sister was reminded of the new law to change lanes if a policeman has someone already pulled over.

Tom arrived in Utah and for a couple of hours we explored Wheeler Farm

First time for everything...

Part 1 of Adventure

Adventurous is the one word that explains the 3 weeks we just spent in Utah….

(1) Taking a mid-day stroll to the park and on our return notice that babies legs got a little red

(yep his first sunburn)

(2) A fun evening of swimming with papa, which lead to papa having to get a new cane

(3) Took the kids rock climbing for the first time with their cousins, which resulted in one of our cousins having a sprained ankle by the end of the day.

(4) Seeing a huge display of the Salt Lake City Temple

(5) Driving though the canyon to go fishing with the gas light on is always an adventure!

(6) Horseback riding with papa even though all the doctors didn’t recommend it.

Big Words

I was watching spelling bee highlights today. What can I say, my family is out of town and I'm home alone, there is a thunderstorm outside and I can't ride my bike. But it made me reflect on my time in elementary school. I never advanced past the first round in any spelling bee held at school. I've always been amazed at people who can spell big words.

Being in medicine there are a lot of big words I get to throw around to make myself feel smart... Cocky, maybe... Justified, sure. Because throwing out a million dollar word reassures my patients that the guy they are talking to isn't just some slug off of the street. I aways try to say big words with a smile on my face, so as to convey the thought that they sound just as silly to me as they do to the person I'm talking to. If you are a user of big words then you quickly become aware of the smile and nod reaction here in America. You can almost see the thoughts written across the faces of your audience, "I have no idea what you are talking about but no way in heck am I going to admit it."

Honestly though, even after working as a PA for three years and having finished three college degrees, I still have to take pause and recall the kid who was ridiculed for spelling square with a "C".

I'm grateful that there is a system in place to help our weaknesses to become strengths, for a wife who believed in me and for word processors with spelling checks.
